Background: These heavy hens are bred to be a dual purpose bird. They are a popular choice for the back garden as they are hardy and consistent layers.
Personality: This is an easy to handle, friendly and docile breed which enjoys foraging and mixes well within a flock. Whilst happiest when free range they are also comfortable in smaller spaces, adapting well to their surroundings.
Appearance: The Light Sussex is striking with a white body, a black tail, black wing tips and a white and black striped neck. They have opposite markings to the Black Sussex.
Eggs: The Light Sussex is a very productive bird, rewarding her keeper with 260 to 280 large light brown eggs in her first year of lay.
